Columbia Gorge Hotel Wedding | Portland Wedding Photographer | Jen & Dave

Jen & Dave are the absolute essence of love itself. Their love for each other absolutely radiates, and is felt by all who know them. After getting to know them on their Engagement session, I knew that their wedding would be nothing short of fabulous.  And I was right.  The Columbia Gorge Hotel is exquisite.  The hotel was built in the early 1900′s and quickly became an international destination with guests like the Roosevelt’s  and Valentino as some of it’s guests.  And after being there I can definitely see why.  The hotel is set on a cliff 100 ft above the Gorge with a waterfall literally coming out from underneath it’s grounds.  Simply magical.

On their wedding day, Jen & Dave welcomed us in with such warm smiles and I instantly felt at home with them and their family.  I love how their personalities were brought out in all of the beautiful details of the day.  We were even gifted a CD of Jen & Dave’s favorite songs for our car ride home.  Which by the way, we totally rocked out to:) Thanks you guys for allowing us to celebrate with you.  You both sincerely touched my heart.

This was kinda a hard angle to get, but I just had to figure out a way to show you guys how fabulous the Columbia Gorge Hotel truly was.

This is the ceremony area overlooking the Gorge...Washington State is across the river.

I love getting detail shots that incorporate something from the venue itself. I'm always on a search for unique flowers, textures and backgrounds.

A view of this Gorgeous vintage hotel from their amazing garden area.

Have I mentioned I absolutely LOVE vintage furniture!

I absolutely LOVE Jen's flower choice. Simple bouquets are just gorgeous!

Lovin' the personalized water bottles...it's so fun when couples add their own flare

and of course the fabulous Avayah Engagement Signature book caught in the act...

Love this shot of Dave kickin' back right before his "First Look"

What an amazing "First Look". Jen's face says so much.

I have to admit, I was totally jealous of Isaac’s angle when I saw this shot.

Oh how I LOVE this shot!

Another fabulous shot by my love.

The architecture at the Columbia Gorge Villas (right next to the Columbia Gorge Hotel) is fabulous. Reminded me of being in Scottsdale. Mmmmmm..

so precious. Look at Dave's face. Totally in awe of her.

These guys were so much fun....And I have to admit. I LOVE these gates.

Seriously these dresses were fab. I so wanted one in my size.

The Columbia Gorge Hotel was absolutely breathtaking. We seriously could've taken photos for hours and had not one of them look the same. So amazing.

The Hotel Staff had placed these signs all around the property since it's a very popular sightseeing location. So thoughtful.

I always make sure I get some 1 on 1 time with the rings. One of my favorite parts of the day:)

Olowalu Plantation House Wedding | Grand Wailea Wedding | Makena Cove Wedding | Happy Anniversary Alec & Rhea!

Rhea was brilliant, radiating beauty and joy like there was nothing else in the world except him.  Alec.  Her soul mate.  Each had found their way to Maui through totally different circumstances.  They soon came to find that the Hawaiian Island had much more in store for them both than they had imagined.   Each other.   The two of them literally beamed when the other walked into the room.  It was amazing and completely contagious.  We felt their love the second we saw them and to this day they hold a very special place in my heart.  I wasn’t much of a blogger until this spring, so I decided that their 1 year Anniversary was the appropriate time to give their gorgeous Maui Wedding the attention it deserved!

Rhea’s passion and attention to detail was unbelievable.  Walking into her reception literally made my jaw drop.  Her taste was impeccable and everywhere you looked you just felt it.  beauty. class. romance.  She had found her man.  Her other half.  The scene was set, and it was time to pledge their unending love.   She watched secretly through the old pane windows of the Olowalu Plantation house as her groom made his way to the alter.  With her arm draped on her dad, she took a deep breath and opened the door.  It was time.  They exchanged vows, blended sand from Oregon (Rhea’s home), Texas (Alec’s home) & Maui (Where they fell in love) and took their first communion as Husband and Wife.  It was exquisite.    Alec’s Father officiated the ceremony which always brings additional tears to my eyes.   What an amazing gift to have your Father marry you.

I felt especially blessed that Rhea took the photography so seriously.  I know when a couple places such an importance on photography that we are in for a ton of fun and REALLY amazing images.  And we got exactly that.  She thought of everything.  Rhea even scouted out hotel rooms so that she was assured of the most amazing backdrop for her and her Bridesmaids to get ready.  The Grand Wailea suited her dreams perfectly…. AND matched the color palette of their wedding.  It’s the little things that mean so much…right?  I have never seen such a gorgeous hotel.  They definitely knew how to put the “Grand” in Grand Wailea.  The rooms were breathtaking.  And the architecture and open aired everything was the epitome of a premiere hawaiian lifestyle.  It’s no wonder why it’s made itself a destination for Maui weddings.  Many couples choose to get married in their gorgeous chapel, chapel gardens or even have a waterfall ceremony.  The possibilities for a flawless maui wedding are endless at the Grand Wailea.   It was however, the Olowalu Plantation House that caught Alec & Rhea’s eye for their actual wedding venue.  Both places so beautiful & exquisite in their own way.  The Plantation House offers up a charming vintagy island feel that is a breath of fresh air from the populated beach resorts.  It’s gorgeous panoramic views and giant trees are absolutely stunning.  The perfect choice for a more intimate & quiet Maui wedding.  Anyway, now I’ve ranted forever about the gorgeous possibilities for weddings in Maui…can you tell I LOVE it here!  On to another rabbit trail.  Originally, I started this part of the post to talk about Rhea’s importance on photography, so let’s get back to that.  Rhea & Alec loved pictures…they wanted as many pictures as they could possibly squeeze into their day, and you know what, we did just that!  It was exhausting, but SO WORTH IT!!!!  Because they devoted so much time for pictures, we were able to get so much more than we would’v e otherwise.  They opted for a First Look which gave us ample time to pad the schedule and get everything that they wanted.  We stopped at 3, yes 3…. locations to take pictures prior to their wedding.  It was like I was in a dream.  I kept trying to pinch myself to make sure it was really happening.  It was that fabulous!  We started out with their first look in her room at the Grand Wailea.  Alec then surprised her with a convertible mustang and drove her off to Makena Cove (also known as Secret Beach) for their first round of photos.  The jagged rocks and crashing waves were like something out of a movie.  It was stunning.  Then we stopped at an amazing old church…I so wish I remembered the name but it was unbelievable, and I’m pretty sure abandoned.  The old rocks and surrounding gardens were like a hidden gem.  After a fabulous time of romantic photos with the giddy Bride & Groom, we met up with the wedding party at Big Beach.  I’m pretty sure that is the official name of the beach but I’m really not sure.  Although the sun was bright, we had a super fun time and got some really lively images of Alec & Rhea with their friends.  After 5 hours of photographs we made it to their wedding venue.  It didn’t feel as long as it was, but we sure got some amazing images.

Here are a few ( ok a ton) of my favorites from that day.  Happy Anniversary Alec & Rhea.  I was so truly blessed to be a part of your wedding.  Blessings to you both!

Here is their ceremony setup at the Olowalu Plantation House... most weddings at this venue face the ocean straight on. I love how they positioned their to face this beautiful tree and the jetty.

There was something about these floor to ceiling plantation doors at the Grand Wailea that just struck me... and I LOVED them in black and white

mmmmm....details are my favorite

Rhea was striking...I mean totally stunning. I LOVED this shot from the second I saw it

This was such a fun shot by Kim while they made their way thru the Grand Wailea to their car.

And here is what Alec had waiting for her....surprise, surprise:)

One of my absolute favs from our first stop at Makena Cove. I waited forever for the perfect wave.

I love that this showed so much intimacy without even seeing their faces. And the water....wow!

Alec and Rhea were such a blast...I love how they had so much fun with the photos

And Kim's angle was fabulous too!

breathtaking.

and Alec wasn't too bad himself:)

This. Right here. Is why I love my job!

Have I mentioned that I LOVE white flowers....such understated simple elegance. MY FAV!

Had to include one from the Fabulous church I mentioned...Don't you LOVE it?

and the gorgeous gardens surrounding the church...I could've photographed in this one location for hours!

Another one of my all time favorites..

wedding perfection. Makes me want to do a vow renewal!

Here is the sand from each of their homes. Didn't she make it look amazing!

Love this shot my Hubby got of the ceremony

I absolutely love colored linens....they make such a statement and really ground your theme

They gave fans and CD's of their favorite songs to all of their guests

a little Bridal Party Fun at Big Beach

This actually happened by accident while I was taking the fan photo above, the girls gave their bouquets to their men... couldn't pass up the photo op

I must admit. I love sunglass shots. So please... remember your sunglasses Bride's and Grooms!

Congratulations Alec & Rhea! Be so very blessed!

Pronghorn Wedding Photographer | Bend Oregon | Mackenzie & Anthony’s Love Story

She walked in, tapped his shoulder and took his breath away as he turned around. As he wiped back his tears she asked, “So do you like it?”, and without a pause he responded, “It’s gorgeous, you know how I love flair.”  And that was my Que.  I snapped a few more photos of their “First Look” through the window panes and quietly let them be.  This is my favorite time of the day.  It so quickly takes me back to my first look with my husband, and I so remember getting to hold him and talk to him before we took our vows.  I feel it is a gift that couples give themselves when they choose it this way.  Because really, it’s the only time of the wedding day that they have just each other, quiet & alone.  Mackenzie & Anthony were amazing.  Completely in awe of each other, fully immersed in the moments they had given themselves.  And that made my heart sing.  Cheers to you both!  It was absolutely a pleasure getting to capture you two and your undeniable love.

Please click on HQ to view in High Definition…it’s TOTALLY worth it!

Side note for Brides & Grooms to be ~ I included a few clips that I was able to catch throughout the day, but I am the first to admit that I’m not a videographer!  My biggest regret as a Bride was not having video, so I just had to get some moments when I could. Especially when Anthony & Mackenzie were obviously having SO much fun!  If you are a Bride I would whole heartedly recommend hiring Vivid Wedding Films to video your wedding.  Ryan and Susan are absolutely amazing people and a blast to work with.  We have kinda developed a rhythm when we work together so that is wonderful for everyone involved.  Plus they have mad cinematography skills. Seriously stunning.  We have teamed up with them on occasion to bring couples some seriously fabulous Photo Fusion Videos.   So if you’re up in the air about a decision for your wedding, I urge you to give them a jingle.:)

It was absolutely our honor! We had so much fun with you guys and your love for each other and those around you added so much to the photos.

Nick - July 29, 2010 - 1:28 PM

Marissa and I just finished watching the slide show and are thrilled that so much of this special event was captured for us to relive and relive. Thank you for doing such a beautiful job.

Erika - July 28, 2010 - 2:20 PM

You captured their love so beautifully, I’m breathless. My favorite are the videos at the end of everyone dancing, what I would do to have something like that! Oh and awesome song…one of my favorites :)

Mackenzie W. Amoroso - July 28, 2010 - 9:20 AM

Karen & Isaac, thank you both so very much! Your work is amazing, truly. We cannot thank you enough for capturing some of the time on video too. The video you captured was awesome, and I’m so grateful. But, I can’t agree more – brides to be, hire a videographer! We had no idea it would be so lively, LOL. Such an incredible day. Love to all.

Mackenzie and Anthony Amoroso - July 28, 2010 - 9:20 AM

So great!! We love it! Thank you so much! It is perfect.

Pronghorn Club Wedding | Bend | Mackenzie & Anthony part 2

Mackenzie was exquisite.  So calm, so present. Breathing in every second of their wedding day.  She leaned against the balcony in her sleek black dress, mimosa in hand, soaking up the Oregon mountain views and just took time to be.  It wasn’t too long ago that she had met the man of her dreams surrounded by these very same snowy peaks.  Mackenzie and Anthony met and fell in love in Bend before heading to Manhattan for Mackenzie’s work.  So when it came to picking a location to pledge their love forever, they couldn’t imagine a more perfect place then to go back to where it all began.

After our first phone conversation I knew Mackenzie was my kind of girl.  We seriously could’ve talked forever about wedding details and pictures, and probably would’ve if we’d had the time.  Between then and now a week rarely went by where we woudn’t email or facebook each other.  So by the time we met with Mackenzie and Anthony for lunch it was like dining with old friends.    You guys better be expecting another double date when we make it back to New York!

I felt so amazingly blessed to have gotten to be around such indescribable, for eternity, love.  The entire weekend was a whirlwind of excitement & tears. Their wedding had me laughing out loud so hard one minute and choking up the next.  Truly a blessing to have such an amazing connection with a couple.  We love you guys:)

I snuck off during the dancing to take this shot of the Pronghorn Club dressed up for the evening. It's no question why they chose it for their wedding venue.

I seriously COULD NOT stop photographing Mackenzie's phenomenal Amsale Gown, It was love at first sight.

Note to future bride's, having your makeup artist come to your venue is FABULOUS! Getting it done in a shaded outdoor area is even better. Makes for fabulous photos and flawless makeup!

I love how Mackenzie & Anthony embraced the colors of the venue and ran with it. It led to such fabulous simple elegance.

another exquisitely simple choice. LOVE the bow!

I thought it was important to document that we were indeed at a Golf Course, which added so much fun to the event.

I love this photo Isaac got of the guys doing toasts while they were getting ready. I love it when the guys are having fun.

And where is my hubby when I think I need him? Oh he's off crawling on the ground rockin the Groomsmen shots! This one of the guys toast made my jaw drop. Love you babe!

I love Mackenzie's passion for details. She called every Barney's in the country to track down her beyond amazing glittery Christian Louboutin pumps...and then creates her own fab hairpiece out of ribbon, rhinestones and peacock feathers. Have I mentioned I love this girl?

I gasped when I saw this come up on my screen. Christina Miranda did such an amazing job on everyone's makeup, and she was such a pleasure to be around.

the movement in this photo made me misty eyed. I had several crisp ones but this one seemed to bring me right to the moment. What do you think?

Mackenzie & Anthony's "First Look" was one of the most incredible moments I have ever witnessed. Makes me breath deep even thinking about it.

As Mackenzie reaches up to straighten his bow-tie Anthony's face says it all..

While I was taking the bow-tie photo above, Isaac was practicing his photo ninja skills and took this amazing shot. I love how it embraces the setting of their day.

If you've followed my work you know I'm a bit obsessive about Ring Shots...as soon as I saw this vase full of wine corks I had to run back upstairs to get the rings for one last little photo shoot

I absolutely adored Mackenzie's dad Mike, and you can probably tell why right here. He adored his girl. I snapped this as he got ready to give her away.

the sheer joy in this image says it all

they laid here for so long, surrounded by sunset skies and waving grass. It melted my heart.

Isaac LOVES his telephoto lens. I can totally see why when he keeps pulling out fabulous images like this!

I wanted to share this image to confirm the necessity of having 2 photographers. While I was getting this...

Isaac was getting this:)

and at the VERY same moment that he snapped this....oh how I LOVE this shot...

I had this amazing view. Both shots were taken within seconds. Seriously.

and on to the party....here is Mackenzie's sweet dad again. I LOVE that I was able to capture this moment as he motions to Anthony to dance with his new Bride.

Mackenzie & Anthony didn't want formal pictures of their wedding party which I totally loved, so instead we did some fun shots at the bar.

I couldn't help but post this shot of Anthony's brother Nick dancing with his love Marissa. They look stunning!

I thought it appropriate to end this post as they ended their evening. Dancing the night away.

Normally at this point you’d be looking at a slideshow, but there was just so much fabulousness oozing out the seams that I have my work cut out for me.  I’m fine tuning it as we speak so it should be up soon.  Check back again because this is one video you WILL NOT want to miss.

Pronghorn Wedding Sneak Peak | Bend Wedding Photographer

Here’s a special shout out to Anthony & Mackenzie who are enjoying a fabulous honeymoon in Tahiti as I type!  Words cannot even describe how blessed I am to know the two of you.  Your love and passion for each other melted my heart time and time again.  Mackenzie you are exquisite.  Striking diva and thoughtful friend all rolled into one.  I am overwhelmed by your kindness & how included you made Isaac and I feel in your day. Thank you.  And Anthony….I have seriously NEVER laughed so hard at a wedding before.  I REALLY had to be ready at every second because I just wasn’t sure what you’d come up with next!  You two are simply fabulous.  Here’s a sneak peak for you guys to enjoy in your cabana:) Don’t worry, there is much, much more to come.

The Pronghorn Club is one of the most amazing wedding venues I have ever seen.  It’s rustic almost tuscan elegant architecture was like a dreamworld.  Not that Bend is lacking fabulous wedding venues, but I would definitely say that Pronghorn Club located between Bend & Redmond Oregon is one of the most unique and amazing wedding venues in the state.  This is just a glimpse of the fabulousness that Pronghorn provides.

Amsale & Christian Louboutin....what else could a girl want?!?

Um....Mackenzie... you belong on the runway. That's all there is to it.

Isaac snagged this shot as we were moving from one location to the next.... Can you see why I love this guy!

I know a Bride & Groom are a good fit for me when they don't mind a little dirt. You guys are such troopers!

this is the reason I have a lead finger, a fraction of a second can make ALL the difference.

A little fun at Smith Rocks during our "Fashion Romance Shoot"

one last image to leave you wanting more....here's a fun shot we took at the BellaTazza cafe downtown. Where their Love Story began.

Yes I know this was a super quick sneak peak, but I have 1700 pictures marked as favorite.  I obviously needed to exercise some self control here.  Stay tuned for more of Mackenzie & Anthony’s amazing wedding at the Pronghorn Club in Bend Oregon.

Paradise Springs Wedding Oregon | Corvallis Wedding Photographer| Jen & Bryan

So 48 hours is quick even for me, but Jen & Bryan’s Paradise Springs Wedding in Monroe was beyond Fabulous, so I just had to share some snippets with you.   This was one of the most beautiful wedding venues I have ever seen.  So elegant & rustic.  Definitely a hidden gem as far as Oregon wedding venues are concerned.  I haven’t made it through all of the photos yet, but when these popped up on the screen I literally gasped….  So here’s to Jen & Bryan…I hope you have an amazing time in Malta & Greece on your month long honeymoon…. I admit I have a bit of jealousy oozing from that last sentence, but you two deserve every minute.  Enjoy!  I will have more up for you soon!

Love this time of night... It's my favorite time to sneak off with the new Mr. & Mrs to get some fab romantic images

Reason number #114 why you need a Videographer at your wedding!

When shooting a wedding you never really know what things you may encounter throughout the day.  At Sasha & Kevin’s wedding a few weeks back, they had asked a few of their friends to come up with some entertainment for the reception…. I love it when couples can add humor and personality to their wedding.  This was Fantabulous!

Thanks Joel for this awesome footage!
If you are planning a wedding and are in need of a Professional Videographer you must check out Vivid Wedding Films….they are by far the best
videography company and some of the best people I have ever worked with!

~ Beyond Blessed ~

So yesterday was Father’s day, and my husband’s 6th one as a Daddy.  We had such an amazing day with our two little munchkins and Isaac’s parents that I just had to write about how blessed I am.   I seriously cannot even imagine my life without this incredible man that I am blessed to call my Husband.  We have been married now for 9 1/2 years and are more in love today than I could’ve ever thought was possible.

He is totally my right brain and keeps me on track when my head gets lost in the clouds.  He has taught our daughter how to jump bravely in the water and sing her heart out around the house.  Our son to throw rocks, play football and be man enough to hug.  He has taught me to dream big, believe in myself and trust again.  I would not at all be who I am today without his leadership, love and support and I am so thankful.

So happy Father’s Day my dear lovie…. You have made my heart sing, and Ava and Zay’s world go around.  We couldn’t have asked for a better leader, daddy and hubby.  We love you and are so blessed by you.

My husband Isaac, asleep on the couch with our 5 day old Ava… One of my all time favorite photos ( I had to scan it so I’m sorry about the quality )
last year with my hubby in Scottsdale….ooh how I love me some honey time!

Made me tear up. Love you guys.

What an awsome little piece! So sweet! You guys have a beautiful family!

Ata Vista Farm Wedding | Corvallis Wedding Photographer | Cody & Angela

So a few months back, I was reading on Jasmine Star’s Blog about how her sister just got engaged and she was debating whether or not she wanted to do the wedding photography or just relax and be a guest.  I remember actually giving it a lot of  thought.  Going through all of the possibilities and pros and cons in my head about shooting a siblings wedding.   Wanting so much to be a part of the festivities, but also not being able to turn your back on the camera which has somehow become an extension of who you are.  Hmmm…. tough one.  My first thought was to have someone else do it, bring your camera and be the second photographer, or third photographer, or whatever you’re comfortable with.  But all of that changed the day this decision became reality for me.

Yes that’s right.  Within weeks of reading Jasmine’s story, my little brother announced his Engagement!  What an amazing moment.  My little ( well younger ) brother is all grown up and getting married.  And to the most fabulous girl I could ever dream of to boot! …… Decision time….  I suddenly remembered the story but this time had a completely different thought process.  Let someone else be in charge of my baby brother’s wedding pictures?!?!  Are you stinking kidding?  This time there was no hesitation, not even a second thought.  I had to shoot his wedding.  What other option was there?  For one, I wanted him to have great photographs, but for two… being a photographer allows you backstage passed to everything!  So I would get to see him more that day than almost anyone else..(except Angela of course).  Sign me up!  However for sanity’s sake I did bring along a few extra shooters.  I mean, I wanted to at least be in some of them!

So here it is… with just over a month to plan, Cody & Angela’s wedding at Atavista Farm was carried out flawlessly. Ata Vista is such a diamond in the rough.  Set on several acres between Corvallis & Eugene, the old farm house is exquisite.  Probably my favorite Bridal Dressing room ever.  With beautiful floor to ceiling bay windows and a gorgeous lawn surrounded by hedges, Atavista is the perfect place to say, “I do.”  Everything was planned perfectly down to their adorable pink & yellow M&M’s which Cody just had to have.   I seriously had such an amazing time, and wouldn’t trade shooting my brother’s wedding for anything.  It allowed me to see up close the amazingly deep love that the two of them share.  Thank you guys for letting me drag your though fields, and into dirty old barns.  I love you both so, so dearly and wish you both a lifetime of blessings you can’t even imagine.

A special thanks to Brittany Lawlor & Annelie Adams for being super fab second shooters.  I seriously COULD NOT have done it with out you! XOXO

If you are a photographer that is up against this same decision, I strongly urge you to follow your heart.  Do what you love, and what works for your family.  If you do decide to shoot it, remember to slow down enough to get some photos with you in them.  You will be super glad you did!

Welcome to Atavista Farm.... a breathtaking late 1800's estate surrounded by hedges and gardens

The homeowner's always hang the Bride's gown by the staircase, if you look at it from above you get this beautiful shot

Angela's hot pink & lemon yellow color scheme made this shoe choice inevitable

I'm not too sure who had more fun with their theme.....um....I'm guessing me

yep...definitely me.

My dashing little brother...and his quirky pose....I love that guy!

Angela your smile seriously radiates an entire room....we are so blessed that you have joined the family

and this my dear is just stunning....my jaw dropped when I saw it come up on the screen. You are so gorgeous!

Angela you are just radiating beauty... it's no wonder you brought tears to Cody's eyes.

Cody helped them steal a moment from all of the spying eyes which I thought was simply adorable!

This shot was so adorable...in all my years I have never seen a groom give a 360 FIrst Look....Cody you are precious!

I am such a huge fan of not being seen....so shots like this make me swoon....I love people in love.

another stolen moment when Cody notices Angela's still wearing the ring he made her

Can I say that I just Love, love, love this shot as Cody's escorting our dear mum up the aisle

Angela and Cody had such an easy way about them, that was tons of fun and made for amazing photos like this one

Did I mention Cody works for the fire dept and got this suh-weet vintage getaway car

I guess just one more of their fabulous lemon detailing

Loving this shot I caught during their first dance...

Introducing my favorite little man in the world! This is Zay, and yes he's mine and yes he's that cute all the time

Some Fireman love... I know how she feels.... I'm married to one too:)

With such an amazing car I had to snag this shot which I saw on a poster inside of Red Robin....my favorite burger place ever!

And last but not least….my favorite shot of the day

Mmmmmm......

Wow guys….*blush* thank you SO much for your kind words. You are WAY too sweet! To answer your question Sarah all of these images were taken with the Canon 5D Mark ii with either a 50 1.4 or a 70-200 2.8… I really only use these 3 pieces for the majority of my work. I do however love throwing in some wide angle and tight macro shots as well. Hope that helps!

Sarah Ciccone - June 18, 2010 - 5:41 PM

Hi Karen! I also found you from Jasmine’s blog…:) I LOVE your work!! It is so beautiful and inspiring :) might I ask if you have a sec…what camera do you use..your favorite lens?? Your style is gorgeous! I really like the photo of the wedding dress with the chandelier in the back…stunning!

Life with Kaishon - June 18, 2010 - 9:45 AM

Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww! You did such a wonderful job! I just saw a comment you left at Jasmine’s blog and wanted to come over and say hi! I loved the fact that you could document his day in such a special way!

Make the best of your Wedding Day!

Wedding Tip # 3…
The getting ready process can take up a good chunk of your day.  It is a huge blessing to your family and wedding party when you make preparations for this time.

1. Make an IPod list of your favs to set the mood and make for a relaxing environment.
2. Bring Food!  Crackers and cheeses, small sandwiches, propel waters, grapes and other non messy items are wonderful!  Stay away from watermelons and colored drinks like gatorade…. we’d hate to have an unfortunate colorful spill before the ceremony!
3. Pad your schedule!  In my experience, when everything is scheduled too tightly it can lead to stress and tardiness.  Allow ample time, and you will find yourself able to relax & enjoy

19 months and counting…Kevin & Sasha’s Wedding

After working on projects together at church, Kevin and Sasha realized that they had seen each other for 12 days in a row.  It seemed that every day following that realization was a challenge to keep the stretch going.  Some days Kevin would bring Sasha something on her lunch break just not to miss a day.  They even made a way to see each other on the morning before an overnight trip and immediately upon return the next day to keep up their record.  When I got them alone on their wedding day, Sasha’s face lit up as she said “ya know, today is exactly 19 months of us spending every single day together.”

This passion and determination was so evident in their relationship.  They would light up with such a giddy glow when they would see each other…even from afar.  As Kevin watched Sasha across the field he said to me with his face in absolute awe. ” I feel like I’m marrying a movie star.”  And that is how they were.  Completely and utterly enamored by the other.  Their love had a way of radiating throughout everyone around them.

Sasha & Kevin you are absolutely exquisite.  I am honored to call you friends and I was overjoyed to be a part of your wedding.  Congratulations!

Thank you Melanie Whitaker and Jennifer Ferguson for your help.  I had such a blast and couldn’t have done it without you!

I absolutely LOVE makeup shots, their is just such anticipation & excitement in the air. It's a must capture time for me.

I love how this dress shot caught the detail in the train and the bodice...gorgeous gown

Sasha and Kevin chose to start their ceremony with worship...I love the emotion caught in this image.

Kevin had such a sweet way with Sasha....always protective and in tune with her

after weeks of straight rain, the skies held back long enough for their wedding....but I have to admit I love the dramatic clouds

gotta love shoe shots.... my fav

I obviously have a weakness for ring shots....

As soon as I saw these tools leaning against the antique shop I thought of that famous picture of the old farmers and had to stop

The Final Four ~ putting my dreams on paper…

I’m a dreamer for sure…I seriously have notebooks and notebooks all over my house filled with ideas, dreams, huge amazing projects that unless helped will probably not reach fruition. But that’s ok. I’ve come to terms with my head in the clouds self, and I leave it to my right brained, a-type, physics loving hubby of 9.5 years to level me out. Without him I would never have a balanced checkbook, and my clothes would probably never make it to the place in the closet that is designed for them. So thanks babe for keeping me in the black and giving my sweaters a perfect place to call home. As we are nearing the mark of being married for 10 years my mind is filled with vision and daydreams of places I thought I would’ve seen by now. Since ten years of marriage is definitely cause for celebration we have all but chosen an amazing destination to spend it in.

So here it is…my wish list. A little slice of my heart… and the reasons that keep me awake thinking about them. If you have been dreaming of the same places and have actually made the oh-so-fabulous decision to get married in one of them, then please call! You would absolutely make my dreams come true if I could do your wedding photography. My hubby and I absolutely love doing destination wedding photography and nothing could make us happier than capturing others in love in the places we love most!

1. First place goes to a wonderland I like to call Santorini Greece…ahhhh….the colors alone are worth the plane ride.   When I was way young I read a teen novel about a girl who went on a cruise in the Greek Islands with her family and fell in love with a local Greek boy.  I was sold.  For some reason Greece has always been in my head, so simply because of the length of this dream.  Santorini deserves the number one spot.  I have found some simply fab wedding venues in Santorini just in case you were interested….hint hint… You must check out Santo Winery, Dana wedding venue, Antoniou Winery and my personal favorite The Ira Hotel

This image is from the Antoniou Winery... a little less of the white and blue architecture but unbelievably breathtaking

ummmm....yes please! This is a view from the Kirini hotel in Santorini. Gorgeous!

Ok, Ok.  On to # 2…. I know you’re just in agony with curiosity!

In honor of my dearest hubby, number 2 goes to……..Bora, Bora!  His name is Isaac but since I never call him Isaac I figured I wouldn’t change that now!  I don’t really know when the obsession started, but I’m pretty sure that Bora Bora had him at hello.  That’s my inner nerd talking.  Anyway, who wouldn’t be smitten with the private huts over the water, white sandy beaches and perfect weather?  I mean come on…this place has perfect wedding destination all over it.  So if it would make a perfect wedding spot, then I think it will definitely do for a 10 year anniversary spot, don’t you?

My choices for Bora Bora resorts, the Four Seasons (pictured below) and the St. Regis.  Hello Paradise!

I don't think there are any words that I could add to this photo....Uh MAZE ing!

I couldn't leave out the St. Regis.... I'd take either one for sure!

And on to #3…. a little more on the romantic side the Amalfi Coast is the winner of 3rd place!

I’m not really sure what has drawn me to the Amalfi Coast in Italy but I have seriously had daydreams about it for the majority of our marriage.  We were so young when we got married that we kinda just did things the way we thought we had to do them. I know hindsight is 20/20,  but we look back now and so very much wish we would’ve done it differently and more “us”.  I think that is where the Amalfi Coast came in.  I think if I were honest with myself….we probably would’ve ended up vowing our love to each other in a place like that.

And the last, but absolutely not the least…. Fiji is our 4th Dream 2nd Honeymoon ( or first since we really didn’t get a first)

As crazy as it sounds my love affair with Fiji came from the movie the Truman Show.  Isaac proposed to me in on the beach in the town where the Truman show was filmed (seaside, Florida) so I took an immediate liking to the film.  It cracked me up how randomly they talked about Fiji throughout the movie, and somehow without even thinking, that was the place that we always joked about going. Without really ever knowing anything about it!  After researching this amazing getaway I was hooked, and it has remained at the forefront of my vacation dreams ever since.

Thanks for listening to my little dreamworld.  It’s nice to have it laid out nicely with photos instead of scribbled on a napkin and shoved into my purse.  I would love to hear what your thoughts are, especially if you’ve been to any of these places.  And if you are a bride or groom planning on having a destination wedding, I was totally serious and would love to be a part of watching your dream come true.

Kim O'Neil - June 20, 2010 - 12:36 PM

LOVE all of these places. I have been fortunate enogh to have gone to three out of the four…still have not gone to Fiji…yet! I don’t think I can even decide which was my favorite because they were all so fabulous! Here’s to dreams!!!

Cannon Beach Wedding | Ocean Lodge Resort | Morgan & Kyle

The words of this Michael Buble’ song echoed through my head as I embarked on my journey home after photographing Morgan & Kyle’s wedding. Not only did the words of their first dance song seem so significant for them as a newly married couple, but after meeting them I knew it held true for every one of their friends and family. Me now included. My relationship with Morgan began a few months ago when she contacted me to cover their wedding up in Washington. Within moments of our first phone conversation I felt as if we’d known each other since early childhood….this may sound cliche’ but it is absolute truth. We could’ve talked for hours, and would’ve had we had the time! Hanging up I knew I had found a treasure and that the Lord had once again divinely intervened to cross our paths.

When the waves of life brought Kyle & Morgan to have a more intimate wedding at the Ocean Lodge Resort in Cannon Beach Oregon, there was no way I couldn’t do it. I moved a few things around and with much enthusiasm made plans to head up the coast to finally meet Morgan & Kyle in person.  Upon my arrival I was greeted with the warmest smiles and the biggest hugs.  The entire family embraced us and made us all feel so welcome.  Having such a laid back and loving environment to shoot in produced the most amazing heart tugging images.

Morgan & Kyle thank you so much for inviting us into your wedding and allowing us to share in such special moments with you and your family.   I know that I will hold on to this experience in my heart forever.  Blessings to you guys.  Xoxo

Bunn & Sara I can’t get through this post without giving you the biggest thanks and a huge hug! Thank you so much for coming alongside me to help capture all angles of Morgan & Kyle’s wedding.  I couldn’t have done it without you and I had an absolute blast!

Having never been to Cannon Beach you can only imagine my shock that this place existed in Oregon! Can you say Fabulous?

With all of the weddings I have been to, I have never seen a dress like this. Morgan had such impeccable taste and looked like an absolute vision in her gown.

Oregon Wedding Photographer Beach wedding photographer

Speaking of taste...can you believe these shoes! I seriously googled them after the wedding because I loved them so much!

One of my favorite things about beach weddings is the groom's attire....just love the flip flops. My hubby told me that if he could redo ours he would've done it exactly like this.

This dress was so stunning it even took your breath away on the hanger! Sara, Bunn and I were all had our jaws dropped!

I love the use of simple hair accessories...Morgan's boutique flower hair clip was the perfect match for her simple & chic beach wedding.

I loved how carefree Morgan & Kyle were....within minutes of touching the sand... the took off their shoes, grabbed eachother's hands and were just together

I love it when a moment seems to stand still right before a kiss....to me this is the best part of the whole kiss

it looks like Morgan planned this shot out to look like the cover of a bridal magazine...but she didn't....she's just naturally that fabulous

love this….it’s like I wasn’t even there

Morgan & her dad David had everyone tearing up...not a dry eye anywhere

what can I say? I'm an absolute sap for anything monogrammed, embroidered or engraved... I can't help it

Thank you Morgan & Kyle for sharing your love with us....

quaint. simple. beautiful.

the golden light at sunset was so amazing I couldn't resist one last round of shots

Im'a detail lover....if you are holding hands, stealing a kiss, guiding her by the small of her back, you better watch out cuz I'll get ya!

This was a shot Bunn caught while I was doing video.... This is such a fabulous image I couldn't resist showing it to you.

taking Kyle's hand as he guides Morgan down the beach... This was one of my favorites because I heard so many stories when I saw it

Karen, this is beautiful, brings tears to my eyes! The slideshow, the music, the pictures, gorgeous!

A whole new wedding experience…. publicly announcing Amore’ Media.

I love slideshows.  To me there is nothing like viewing your images set to music.  It just draws you in….I somehow end up crying at almost every one.  Our clients have been enjoying Amore’ Media for well over a year now, but we just recently decided to give it a name and let the world know! Last year, every one of our clients received a slideshow of their wedding on a custom wedding website.  However the response was overwhelming and almost every client wanted a copy of their slideshow on a DVD.  Unfortunately the online slideshow program didn’t allow that.  So in turn, I ended up creating another video (shown below) that was DVD compatible for each of my clients .

In the end, I was able to give them a stunning online presentation of their wedding and a DVD for them to keep forever.  But, they were still 2 different videos.  It made me sad that my clients couldn’t keep the first slideshow that they saw, so I knew something had to change.

The new videos which we have come to call Amore’ Media were overwhelmingly popular.  Everyone loved them, and in turn passed them on to their friends and family who also raved about them.  So this year, I decided to create Amore’ Media videos for every client right off the bat.  Our new custom wedding websites will now feature these videos from the get go, so what you initially fall in love with you can actually take home on DVD!  How exciting is that!

Take a look at one of our Amore’ Media Videos that have already captured the hearts of so many of our Bride’s & Grooms.

Please, Please press HQ to view in High Definition….it will be much more fun!

Bravo Wedding Affair at the Embassy Suites ~ Oh what a night!

Ok….so I just had to share about the amazing time I had at the Bravo Wedding Affair on Feb 22nd.  The show was held at the Embassy Suites downtown and I feel so richly blessed to have been a part of it.  Not only was it jaw dropping gorgeous, but everyone involved is absolutely amazing!  My friend Susan from Vivid Wedding Films was my partner in crazy chaos for the weekend.  I cannot even begin to describe the amount of fun we had.  Not only was it a fun Mommy’s nite out for the both of us, but we also just adore weddings.  Susan and I had not done a show together before this.  So when it came time for the show, I was floored to find out that Susan shared my crazy, over the top, giddy in love, passion for Brides and their weddings.  was awe struck.  I didn’t know another wedding-a-holic existed so close to home.  Oh happy day!  Needless to say, I am sure this is not the last of our fun weekends together.
Stay tuned and I’m sure you’ll be hearing much more from the two of us.

Man do we know how to rock it! Susan and I actually practiced our poses...can you tell?

This is a glimpse of our set up at the show. I love the homey feel of this part of our booth

In the Mezzanine they had gorgeous tablescapes designed by Barclay Event Rentals and Uncommon Invites

Class Act is certainly fitting for this display. These gorgeous tables were designed by Class Act Event Coordination and Crystal Lilies Florist

Um...Wow. That's all I could say when I entered this exquisite room done by Sorella Events & West Coast Event Productions. Stunning.

Another fav from this breathtaking room...can't you just see your guests enjoying your reception

Ok...just one more from here...I promise...I just get so giddy with beautiful details...and the green....WOW!

Magnifique Boutique lit up the show with stunning Bridal Attire...yum.

Royce's Prop Shop & Greenlight Creative made this room absolutely unforgettable...the pics don't even begin to describe

Charlotte's Weddings & More was also showered in pink. Charlotte's models walked throughout the show and time and time again I was wowed by their beauty.

I just had to add in a photo of this amazing cake. It was so simple and unique that it definitely caught my attention. Such amazing work by La Joconde Wedding Cakes.

What a fun & elegant tablescape by No Ordinary Affair...seriously such fab ideas

Of course Susan and I had to stop for a photo shoot in the street! I mean doesn't everybody do that?

Wasn't long before everyone wanted in on the fun...Here I am with Jodie of Bravo Publications & Dave Wilkins of Celebrations Magazine.

And here is Dave's wife Becky with her bodyguards! Lovin the random Portlanders who are joining in on the photos backdrop!

As you can see we had an absolute blast at the Bravo show this year.  We met so many amazing people and had an all around great girls weekend.  A big shout out goes to Ryan and Susan Welch of Vivid Wedding Films for changing around their whole weekend to support me.  You guys rock!

Photo Fusion ~ A breathtaking Wedding Experience

If you know much about me, you know that I love to push the envelope and I can’t stand being just a “normal” photographer.  It is this passionate drive that always keeps me inspired and pressing forward.  About a year ago, a flame was lit under me to incorporate video with photography to create an unforgettable Wedding Memory.   I researched for a long time and looked into hiring videographers or simply bringing on an additional photographer that would shoot video through their Canon 5D.  The more I looked into these options, the less satisfied I was becoming.  I wanted quality, and I knew deep down that there had to be a better way to do this.  It was then that I met Ryan from Vivid Wedding Films.   I was completely captivated by his talent and drive for excellence.  He had certainly become an expert in his craft and that was exactly what I was looking for.  We worked together on Aaron & Lauren’s wedding in Portland last fall and I feel the result is truly fabulous.

We are extremely excited to announce that we have teamed up with Vivid Wedding Films to provide Photo Fusion services to our couples.  Words cannot describe my crazy passion for what’s to come with this new adventure.  It has always brought me great joy to provide couples with such amazing memories of their weddings.  So now, to be able to bring their memories to life in such an incredible way with this service is a blessing beyond words.

Thank you Vivid Wedding Films for helping bring my vision to life:)

Anna Kim - March 3, 2010 - 10:10 AM

Wow! Very impressive! I love the story and the music goes with it beautifully!

Ryan Welch - March 2, 2010 - 10:40 PM

It’s truly a pleasure working with a fun, professional, creative photographer like you Karen. We’re excited to create some really cool video-photo fusions with you!

Your Day in Focus features Avayah Photography

So if you are a frequent follower of our blog, you know that we seriously heart Vivid Wedding Films as well as the guys behind the camera.  We have worked several times with Todd & Ryan and thoroughly enjoy them even more than we love their work.  That in and of itself is an extremely hard task because their cinematography skills are absolutely FABULOUS!!!  So Brides, if you haven’t booked a videographer yet, don’t hesitate to check out their website .

If you are looking for a truly spectacular experience and something your guests will talk about for years, check out our video/photo fusion packages.  We have teamed up with Vivid Wedding Films to bring our clients something seriously incredible.  We work side by side with them to tell an amazing visual story through video and photos.  You can even get a highlight video of your day with your photographs blended in to show to your guests at the reception!  How fab is that!?!  And to top it off….the album from your wedding will actually have an ipod touch mounted into the cover that plays your fusion video.  Talk about a cherished heirloom! My word!  Imagine getting out your wedding album in years to come and instantly being able to watch your wedding video too!  Can you tell I love this!

Okay..so enough blabbering about our fun new project.  I am deeply honored that they guys at Vivid wanted to interview me for their new blog segment Your Day in Focus.  It’s a bi-monthly segment where they feature their favorite wedding vendors in the Willamette Valley and give Bride’s some insider tips to really help them out in their planning.  I was more than happy to be part of the first group of vendors…and even more thrilled that my super fab couch gets to be a returning character in the YDIF’s to come!

Hiring a Professional Wedding Photographer? Is it worth it?

So many times we run into people who don’t understand why wedding photographers “cost so much”  Well, I ran into a little craigslist ad that I found quite humorous and thought I’d share.  There are PLENTY of people who own a camera and will claim to be a professional.  But are they insured?  Do they have experience with different lighting conditions? Do they have back up equipment? Do they back up all of your images?  Do you want them if they don’t?  Just a little food for thought.  They are your memories.  If you want to leave them up to chance that’s up to you.

Here’s the post….

Hi there! My name is $&%()* and I’ve just got a brand new camera for Christmas but haven’t even taken it out of the box. I really want to get into the wedding photography business because I see so many people in Utah are getting married and it looks like easy money. I can’t guarantee that even one photo will turn out looking good but I sure will try. Some pictures will be used for my portfolio and my future website. I start booking appointments this week! I am now booking for Spring and Summer of 2010.

I specialize in all types of Lifestyle photography including:

Weddings – You’ll have to pay $15 for gas money outside of Salt Lake City
Bridals
Engagements
Families
Children
Portraiture
Fashion

My style is classy, elegant and artistic. I would be honored to be part of your special occasion or photography needs considering I have no professional experience. I would love to capture those beautiful moments for you and your family.

I have so much passion for being a pro wedding photographer! All my friends and family tell me I take great pictures at all our outings and picnics. I’m putting together a web site of all the flower pictures and sunsets I’ve taken so you can see how good I am. I even have a few pics of my pet dog which turned out really great!

But I don’t have a business license, liability insurance, flashes, extra batteries, or even more than a kit lens that came in the box. If something goes wrong, you’re out of luck. To keep things cheap for you, I won’t even back up any of your images. Less cost for me means less cost for you. Just passing the savings on. I expect to be paid in cash or personal check because I don’t plan on claiming this income on my taxes.

I know many fun and beautiful locations. I really care about making brides look beautiful! I add glow and selective color to all of my images, giving them the best look possible. No need to hassle with computer programs.

Bridals and Engagements are only $100. Please trust me to do your wedding. I’ll do it cheap just to build up my portfolio. I will only charge you $250 for your entire wedding day. This is a deal. My camera cost me $700 brand new. All sessions include a Hi Resolution CD with FULL copy right release included, which means you get to print your pictures at Wal-Mart! Here’s the BEST Part! I offer 100% guarantee on ALL my sessions! Don’t pay a cent until you are 100% happy with your pictures!

I own a camera therefore I can take photos like the pros, who charge alot more. Most brides in Utah spend $2,500 on professional wedding photography. Since I have no experience I’ll only be charging $250 (90% off regular wedding photography prices) to shoot full day wedding coverage.

Think about it: Pros charge alot of money because they have alot of expenses. I don’t.

Pros have:
-a business license
- multiple cameras
-thousands of dollars in lenses and flashes
-hard drives to back up the images
-insurance
-experience
-people skills
-color calibrated monitors
-professional print labs
-professional albums

I have none of this stuff so we’ll keep it cheap, just for you!

I’m not so sure this would bring me much comfort as a Bride…but it does give a little insight to why professionals are worth what they ask.

Holli True - February 8, 2010 - 3:07 PM

Classic! LOL I’m using this for my next campaign ad: “If something goes wrong, you’re out of luck.” I be the brides came-a-runnin’! :)

Justine - January 26, 2010 - 8:00 PM

woooow. This is hilarious! Thanks for sharing:-)

Introducing my new friend Lori from Elegant Creations!

So this weekend was full of so many things, but my fav  of fav’s is mingling with my wedding peeps and of course meeting new ones!  I was blessed to meet Lori by strange coincidence on Saturday.  My daughter came to visit me dressed head to toe in pink tutu-ness… she’s 4.  She loves to come visit me at the “princess show” and see all of the pretty things with Grandma & Grammy.  She fell in love with a pink and yellow tiered birthday cake Lori had on display and has convinced me to buy it for her 5th birthday in April.  Instantly I was drawn to Lori’s sweet personality and hospitable heart.  Her designs are classy, lavish and just over the top fab so I just had to share them with you.   I LOVE anything that sparkles.  Lori’s designs are the perfect fit for any Bride wanting to glitz it up.  Here are a few of the cakes she had on display.

Oh…and did I mention.  They are so tasty!  Chocolate Orange is my personal fav…but I think I am going to order a layer of Pina Colada for my darlings birthday as well.

2010 Album Collections…Introducing Jacqueline

I will be the first to admit it…I am totally an Album-o-holic….Can you blame me?  They are so pretty and just ooze out love…I seriously cannot get enough of them!  Unfortunately I did have to narrow down the Albums that I would offer because I don’t want to overwhelm my couples, but if you don’t see something you love here, I promise you I know where I can get the perfect one!  But a fuzzy leopard cover isn’t for everyone so here is the first Album we are releasing for 2010….Jacqueline.  Inspired by the clean lines and simple sophistication of Mrs. Kennedy, we bring you this gorgeous Italian album with a genuine leather cover.  The Jacqueline features custom stamping of your names & date into the cover, full page spreads and stunning metallic paper that bring life to your images.  A fun bonus to this collection is our Itty Bitty Jackie’s that make excellent gifts for friends & family.  Itty Bitty Jackie’s are exact mini copies of your main album and are available in 4×4 inch and 2×2 inch when a Jacqueline Album is purchased.

Will Foster - January 6, 2010 - 4:42 PM

Hey, I really like the way the album turned out! I am sure the client absolutely loves it!

Role Reversal! Time to get my groove on

So about a year ago at one of the Bridal Shows I do, I met Todd and Ryan of Vivid Wedding Films.  I had an instant connection with them and knew this was one of “those” moments.   A forever moment.   A specific time that I would look back on and remember a shift.   It’s been a crazy year since then, and I’ve gotten the chance to work alongside these guys and get to know them as friends.   It has been so inspiring being around “out of the box” thinkers, and I know that I have grown as a person and as a business because they challenge me to go for it.  One of our first conversations was about how I really wanted to do a promo video that could help my clients get to know me a little better, and see how I work.  So every time we worked together this year, they were always secretly filming me….I was paying attention to the Bride & Groom so I have no idea what kinds of embarrassing acts or wind blown hair styles they caught on film!  Anyway, this past week they finally cornered me for my studio interview footage! AAAHHH!

I think I didn’t eat anything all day, and was kinda on the verge of… well… my stomach was flipping out so you get the picture.  I was up against one of my biggest fears.  Video cameras and microphones! Yes, I know.  If you have been around me for any amount of time this could come as a big shocker.  Because in most senses of the word, I am a huge ham and love to make people laugh.   So why I freak out internally at the mere sight of a video camera in my direction is beyond me.  This year and the undertaking of this project has caused a huge amount of growth in me.  And I must admit, I am pretty proud of conquering this silly fear of mine.   While the final cut of the video is still in the making, I wanted to give you some fun behind the scenes shots to keep you in the loop.  I promise.  I will share as soon as I have it!

This is a video still Ryan took as we were taping....it was super hard to keep looking forward as he was running around me!

another fab shot from Ryan...trust me, now I totally sympathize with the camera shy!

If anyone is looking for an amazing promo video and you want to have some fun while you’re at it, the guys at Vivid Wedding Films are it!   Thanks Todd & Ryan for everything!

Daydreams~

Sometimes….okay, most days….I go through the day and pretty much can’t get my head out of the clouds.  I am an innate dreamer.  Even if something doesn’t seem at all possible, I almost always think it is.  I have been this way as long as I remember and can’t really think of a time when an obstacle seemed to large to stop me from trying.   Because I love having a good time, and absolutely dread paperwork (thank God for book-keepers!), it doesn’t take much to get me dreaming.  So, I thought I would clue you in on a few of the things that make my heart pitter patter.

This weeks Daydreams go to~

Four Christmases ….oh how I could watch you a million times in a row.  Netflix enables me to watch a movie over and over and not worry about returning it, so I have managed to watch this movie repeatedly for the past week.  I will go about my daily duties and just crack up outloud and start repeating the lines to my husband.  Thank you Vince Vaughn for bringing me so many laughs this week.

Etsy….do I even have to say why?  I seriously heart ETSY….it is a fabulous site where artists sell their handmade items.  I have been known to browse til the wee hours of the morning…seeing work of other creatives is so inspiring!

Here are a few recent favs~

Eugene Wedding Photographer ~ Isaac & Rachel

Some days I wind up wearing my pajamas all day.  Cooking, cleaning, working, playing with kids, the usual.  And then other days, I get to be a part of something that is so much bigger than me.  Something so unexplainably beautiful that all I can do is take a deep breath and thank God that I get to be a small part of it.   Oct. 16th was one of those days.  As I gathered my things that morning to head out for Isaac & Rachel’s wedding, excitement filled my heart in a way that I cannot describe to you.  Rachel’s family has been a place of comfort and love for me for several years now.  Whether they knew it or not, my heart has been deeply touched by them.  When Rachel came back from England last year beaming from finding the love of her life, I just knew I had to be a part of the wedding.  It was an extreme honor for me to have been allowed the chance to be capture such special moments with her as she wed the man of her dreams.

Thank you Isaac & Rachel.  May God richly bless you.

Also, a huge thank you goes out to Kim O’neil & Robin Prizner for helping me with this wedding.  There were so many people and so much going on that I couldn’t have possibly done it without you.  Thanks!

For you Eugene Bride’s out there…the wedding and reception were held at the Eugene Faith Center.  In the past few years Faith Center has built an absolutely stunning event room called the Atrium.  It is among my favorite ballroom type rooms in the city.

Michael Buble's amazing songs filled the air as the wedding party got ready....seemed to me a nice personal photo op for Rachel & Isaac's gorgeous custom rings.

Some Like it “Stott” ~ Kris & Wayne

This is a little section where I take the time to share the notes that come across my desk.  I am beyond blessed to do what I do, and to be a part of people’s lives on such a personal level.  So for me, I feel like I should be writing lengthy thank you’s to everyone who invites me in, not the other way around.  But, it seems that these legible blessings make their way into my inbox regardless and my soul is truly blessed.  So here’s a glimpse of a note that delighted my heart.  THANK YOU KRIS…you touched my soul.

Karen,
It is so…. PERFECT!!!!  Everything from the music… to the lighting, to the photos…I was crying for most of the first time I watched it..it was so amazing.  Thank you, really.. thank you. The soft light, the glow,  my friends, Chloe and Wayne- all of us, you captured it…done..speechless nothing could have let others into our special night more than this.
Wayne has this saying about how I shine sometimes when I look at him , or we enter a room together.. and in this one picture(he is holding me I am in front him gazing up..I see it.. I see the shine he has always talked about,  I can’t wait to see the others!
It’s Him with me
It’s Us..
It’s my Husband, Daughter, Family and Friends
Thank you.. you did this for us,
Bless you both,
Kris

King Estate Love Story ~ Rachel & Isaac

He reaches out to grab the hand of his new Bride.  With the help of her groom, Rachel manages to emerge from within the puffy cloud of her ivory Allure gown.  Once out of the car, Rachel takes a deep breath, gathers her train and veil, and grins wide eyed at her new husband.  The crisp 48 degree fall air didn’t seem to get a second thought.  They just snuggled up close and laughed as we started walking toward a rustic old door at the King Estate Winery.  It is always a joy to be a part of a couples wedding memories.  But it is a whole different level when the love between a couple is so strong, and so deep, that I walk away beaming.  On this day, beaming was an understatement.  I seriously could’ve spent all day on their wedding photography.  Rachel & Isaac were amazing, and King Estate is nothing short of wedding venue perfection.  Atop of a rolling hillside in a town just south of Eugene sits this absolutely fabulous winery.  The vineyard was glowing with fall yellows, oranges and reds.  The view seemed to go on forever, and the staff was so sweet and accommodating it made me want to get married again …. ( to the same fabulous man of course!)   This place was seriously a wedding photographers paradise.  And getting to be there with a couple like Rachel & Isaac was truly an unforgettable time.  I am always honored to be in the presence of such true love.  You’ll notice that this post is oozing with photos, but come on….how was I going to choose any less?!?  These two are absolutely fantabulous! ….Yes….that is my dorky word for things that are too spectacular for just one word…Enjoy.

RachelIsaacBlog-130

Amazingly enough...living in Oregon's willamette valley almost my whole life, I never realized that grape vines changed colors. When I pulled up to King Estate and saw the vineyard glowing in brilliant yellows I was grinning ear to ear.

These gorgeous doors were the first thing I saw when pulling up to King Estate.  I knew instantly that I must hurry and get some images before the sun peeked out from the clouds.

RachelIsaacBlog-158

Wineries are probably one of my favorite venues for weddings.  There is so many amazing backdrops it is like a wedding photographer’s candy~land!

RachelIsaacBlog-136-2

Like I’ve already said, the staff at King Estate is fabulous!  They went above and beyond and actually let us go down into their barrel room to take pictures. WOW! I wasn’t even prepared for the beauty in there.  Next time, I will be bringing my lighting setup for sure!  But we made do and came out with some amazing stuff.  Rachel, thanks for bearing with me and laying down on the cold tile!

RachelIsaacBlog-133-2

Okay…just one more!  Sorry but this place was just oozing with awesomeness.  I couldn’t choose just one!

RachelIsaacBlog-138

I know I’ve already said this….but I just LOVE Rachel & Isaac.  They were so giddy in love it was contagious.

RachelIsaacBlog-139

RachelIsaacBlog-151

As much fun as I had in the barrel room, the fall colors at King Estate were even more incredible.  These next few photos were taken on the back patio.  A perfect place for an outdoor wedding! Spectacular!

RachelIsaacBlog-139-2

RachelIsaacBlog-154

With a 180 degree turn, it seemed as though we were on top of the world.  But the stunning views from King Estate Winery were nothing in comparison to the look on Isaac’s face.  LOVE it!

RachelIsaacBlog-155

Taking a break from the fun…Isaac and Rachel looked over the valley as if time had stood still.  I love that they took a second to cherish the moment.

RachelIsaacBlog-156

and to steal a kiss….

RachelIsaacBlog-132-2

This comical moment brought a few of my favorite images of the day…. the architecture of the actual winery is amazing.  Unlike anything else in the Eugene area.

RachelIsaacBlog-131-2

Lovin’ the shoes!!!  I’ll admit it…I’ve got a fetish.

RachelIsaacBlog-133

RachelIsaacBlog-150

This is one of my favorite images by far.  Isaac’s eyes tell an amazing story of a deep love.  So proud. So at peace.  Having Rachel by his side.

RachelIsaacBlog-152

The rain storm the day before had filled the tops of the barrels to the point of overflowing.  As I was photographing the picture above, I noticed a slight reflection coming from the top of this wine barrel.  Loving any opportunity to tell a story artistically, I climbed right up on the stone wall and guided Rachel & Isaac over to get the perfect reflection shot.  Totally worth getting my boots all wet!

RachelIsaacBlog-135

King Estate is beautiful all year round.  But getting a chance to shoot up here at the peak of season change was simply breathtaking.

We made sure to leave time for a leaf fight. You’ll have to watch the slideshow for those ones:)

RachelIsaacBlog-131

Thank you Lord for your gentle breeze….stunning.

RachelIsaacBlog-153

As Rachel & Isaac walked down to the vineyard, I just had to snap this shot.  The buildings at King Estate are almost more amazing than the landscape….well…ALMOST.

Isaac and Rachel thank you for such a wonderful day.  You two are an absolute joy, and it was an honor doing your wedding photography. Be VERY blessed.

Karen- these are stunning! You totally captured their deep love for eachother. I love them!

Why Wedding Photography??? Let me tell you :)

So recently I’ve had a lot of questions from other photographers about why I chose weddings as my primary business….Well, let me make this very clear…..I LOVE THEM!!!! I am absolutely crazy in love with all things wedding.  If I had more time I would probably run an entire wedding business and be a wedding coordinator as well as a wedding photographer.  I wasn’t always sure I wanted to do weddings and my business started as a children & maternity photography company.  However, after doing the wedding photography for a dear friend, I was hooked.  And I mean hooked.  Every time that I prepare to go shoot a wedding I seriously feel like it’s Christmas morning.  I get giddy wondering what the dress will be like, what cake did they pick out…what colors did they choose and how are the tables decorated.  I am a detail queen.  I could seriously spend hours browsing beau-coup (my favorite wedding detail store) or flipping through wedding magazines for great detail ideas.  To me, it’s all about the details…and the DRESS!  If I get to a wedding that has fab place settings and centerpieces I seriously feel like I am in picture heaven.  Pretty things just make me giddy.

So, I guess that was a long drawn out way of saying, I chose this as my specialty because I am passionate about it.  Wedding Photography brings me so much joy, and I have met so many wonderful couples that bring me so much inspiration and friendship.  If you are a photographer, and you’ve tried weddings and don’t love it, find something you love and go with it.  I tried portraits for a long time, and I was never happy with my work.  So when I found that I was passionate about wedding photography, I made the switch.  I would much rather be an expert at one thing than so, so at 20 things.  And in the paraphrased words of one of my hero’s Dane Sanders….”if you were looking for a brain surgeon, would you go to a general surgeon that just did brain surgery among other things, or would you go to a surgeon who specialized in brain surgery and was among the top in the industry?”  Well, I certainly hope you answered the latter!  So with that in mind, I made the decision to become solely a wedding photographer, and strive forever to be the best in that niche that I could be.   So for all of you wondering why wedding photography dominated most of my site and my blog, I hope this clears it up for you.  And I challenge you, if you’re a photographer, to go after it.  Experiment, find what you love and then charge forward.  When you find what you are passionate about, and do that, you will be surprised what doors will open for you.

Kyle & Leslie – Oregon Wedding Photographer

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE doing weddings for friends.  Well, most couples I am blessed to work with end up as friends, but I was fortunate enough to know Kyle and Leslie long before they fell in love.  Kyle and Leslie had a country church wedding just north of Eugene Oregon. I am double blessed because they chose me to do their engagement photographs as well as their wedding photography.  I could not imagine any couple better suited for each other than these two, and I was blown away watching their love story unfold.  Thanks you guys for letting me be a part of your day.  It was truly an honor.  I love you!

Portland Engagement Photography with Aaron & Lauren…

I had a blast with Aaron & Lauren during their engagement session in Portland’s amazing Pearl District, and Portland’s Pittock mansion.  I LOVE doing engagment photos because then I get a chance to really get to know and interact with a couple before doing their wedding photography.  Aaron &  Lauren are tying the knot in Lake Oswego in October.  I can’t wait….Here’s more of their story.

A month or so ago, Aaron’s sister Heather called me to photograph her brother’s Portland wedding. Since typically it is the Bride I first hear from about wedding photography, this call was particularly intrueging. As I listened to Heather’s story and her love for her brother and Lauren, I knew I just had to be a part of this Portland wedding. Heather began to tell me that she and her husband really invested in their wedding photography a few years ago, and to this day they both pull them out and get teary eyed remembering their big day. She desperately wanted Aaron and Lauren to have the same great memories of their own wedding photography. So here she was researching Oregon wedding photographers, and calling Me! I felt SO honored! The next part of the story was one I wasn’t really prepared for, and still leaves me misty as I write it. Heather added, however, there is a slightly selfish motive for me wanting them to have great pictures…..my husband and I won’t be able to go to their portland wedding, so pictures of my brother’s wedding have an even greater importance to me. My husband left a few weeks ago for Iraq, and I will also be deployed in about a month to a different base in Iraq. My heart dropped as I listened. She went on to say, Aaraon & Lauren were going to be married in February of 2010, but now that Aaron is also being deployed to Iraq in January, they had to push up their wedding to October. Tears were welling up in my eyes. I couldn’t help but reflect back on the first year of my own marriage, when my husband was unexpectedly deployed to Kuwait 4 months after our wedding. I was flooded with emotions from everywhere. So sad that they had to be apart…So blessed to be asked to be a part of their day, and so thankful for the men and women who sacrifice their lives, and time with family, for us. In such a quick moment, I was so connected to these people who lived so far from me. Heather and I hung up the phone, but emailed and chatted a few times after that.  And she even keeps in touch with me from Iraq. We set up a time for an engagement session when Aaron would be in town for the weekend. He had thoughtfully picked out the Pittock Mansion in Portland where he had proposed on another weekend trip to Oregon. We had such an amazing time….the two of them so in love, so grateful for each minute they had together. Aaron had a 3:30 flight back to Texas and we finished shooting at noon. I can’t tell you how beyond blessed I am that they chose to spend their last few hours with me that day. Words cannot describe….

Oh Karen, these are just breathtaking!! They are every bit as good as I’d hoped for, and one hundred times better! Despite knowing Aaron & Lauren for just a few minutes, you managed to capture on camera the very essence of what we love most about them, individually and as a couple. Amazing!! :-) Thank you for the effort and emotion that you put into your art…we are truly blessed to have you in our lives!

Olowalu Plantation House | Maui Wedding Photography | Alec & Rhea

Alec and Rhea knew that Maui  Hawaii was the place to have their wedding because it is where they met and fell in love.  With such an amazing setting and beautiful couple, I felt like I was in candyland as their wedding photographer…Well, maybe more like Nordstrom shoe dept!  I was in LOVE!  These two were an absolute blast to spend the day with.  Rhea and the gals started off the day with pampering at the Grand Wailea Resort in N. Maui where I enjoyed hearing stories of the two of them as I clicked away in detail paradise!  We then headed to 3 different locations for portraits before getting to the Olowalu Plantation House a beachside wedding dream venue in Maui.  The ceremony was perfectly at sunset just like a dream.   After  a few teary moments at the ceremony Alec and Rhea were announced Husband & Wife.  Congrats you guys!!!  It was an honor and absolute priveledge being your wedding photographer and sharing in the day with you.

Kim, thank you so much for coming along to help.  It was so fun shooting with you, and even more fun getting to hang with you.

Jesse and Marissa were such a sweet couple who are head over heels in love and it shows.  I know it probably shouldn’t be, but one of my favorite things is when a Groom tears up at the sight of his Bride.  Seeing Jesse’s reaction to Marissa was one of the sweetest things I have witnessed.  I even saw Marissa give him her tissue during the ceremony.  The love that they have for each other is indescribable.  As a photographer, I am so blessed when a couple really invites me in and allows their emotions to shine true when I may just be feet away.  Jesse and Marissa did just that and more, they were absolutely glowing and I bet the entire world could’ve been where I was standing and they would’ve acted the same way.  Congratulations you two!  You truly have found a gift in each other.

Backyard Bliss-Salem Oregon Wedding

I just had the pleasure of photographing Kris & Wayne’s wedding in Salem.  They said their vows under an amazing vine covered pagoda in their friends back yard.  I couldn’t have imagined a prettier place for such a quaint ceremony.  Working with Kris and Wayne was a delight.  She mentioned that she chose me as their wedding photographer because she wanted a women who could relate to what she was going through on her wedding day.  I was absolutely honored!  Their taste is absolutely exquisite and it showed in all of their amazing choices for the wedding.  Thank you Wayne and Kris for such a fabulous time.  The sun set early on their wedding day, so taking wedding photographs outside got a little tricky.  Lucky for me, they wanted more wedding pictures so we set up a fashion romance session at the Willamette Valley Vineyards to get some more wonderful wedding memories.  Check back for some great shots from that shoot.

Eugene Oregon Wedding Photography – Nick & Kellie

This past weekend I had the pleasure of photographing the wedding of Nick & Kellie Skrepetos at their Eugene Hilton wedding. Not only is the couple gorgeous on the outside but the life and passion that flows from the inside made this couple hard to say goodbye to at the end of the day.  The love that they have for each other and those close around them was one of the most beautiful things I have witnessed.  We had a blast doing their wedding photos downtown Eugene and had some great urban wedding photographs.  The fun personal touches were among my favorites to date.  They had a Portland wedding photobooth company (somethingforever.com) set up in the ballroom for guests to get their pictures taken. At every place setting they had miniture vintage looking white washed picture frames for their guests to keep their photobooth picture in!  Now that’s a personal touch.  Nick also has an unbelievable love for cars.  He had his groom’s cake made into a replica of his Viper.  The cake was so stunning that it was never even cut into.  Thanks Nick and Kellie for a fabulous time.  You two truly do make everyone around you feel so special. Congratulations!

Salem Oregon Garden Wedding Photography – Brett & Anna

I had so much fun yesterday doing Brett and Anna’s day after wedding photography at the Oregon Garden’s outside of Salem.  The Oregon Garden’s are absolutely stunning, with over 100 acres of manicured garden’s, fountains, ponds and stone walkways.   If you are looking for an Oregon wedding venue that will take your breath away, this is it!  They also have a brand new Oregon Garden Resort on the property perfect for a more ballroom / indoor wedding venue complete with a day spa.  Brett and Anna wanted to have their wedding there but it was already booked so they chose to have a church wedding outside of Eugene instead.  They decided to use the Oregon Gardens for a Fashion Romance shoot, and I was thrilled.  This was my first time to the garden and I cannot wait for another opportunity to shoot there.   The two of them were so obviously in love, so they were incredibly fun and easy to photograph.  Brett and Anna, thanks for trusting me with these precious memories.  The two of you were a blast, and it was so great that you were up for anything my creativity could ask for.  God Bless you two!

Eugene Senior Photography – Adam

I had such an awesome time the other day with Adam, a senior at Harris Private School in Harrisburg.  As a farming family, we set out on his property to get some truly unique and personal images.  We had fun around the fish pond that he swam in every summer growing up, set up his amp in family grass seed field, and found an amazing antique tractor that was his great grandfather’s.  Thanks Adam for being so relaxed and entertaining.  It was such a blast hanging out with you!

Adam obviously loves playing the guitar. I think we photographed 3 different ones during the session. This one deserved it's own portrait.
